I don't post here very often anymore. It's not that I don't like it here, it's just that I've been busy elsewhere. It's not you, it's me. But don't be upset now. I have good news...
I blog fairly regularly over at Zoom In and rumor has it, that I am working on something at the other blog too. And then of course there's flickr and twitter. And Facebook, too. I'm everywhere but here, it seems.
So, when will I be back? Perhaps when there is a new season of Danish Lessons to present. The old ones are available on cd, by the way. Just dropped the price on those suckers, too. Guaranteed to make your mouth hurt (unless you're Danish). Until then...
Let me just say this, before I say anything else: If you are any kind of serious about photography, and want a digital camera that will fulfill your commercial dreams, stay away from the PowerShot. It produces compressionridden images like you wouldn't believe.
I've peppered this post with a couple of shots, recently taken with it. Apart from that, these pictures have nothing to do with the contents.
Anyway, we got the camera for that trip, and I've actually taken to carrying the little bugger around with me, shooting left and right. As faithful readers of this blog will remember, I have been in a photographic funk lately, feeling a little too constricted with simply shooting with sales in mind. Since the point and shoot is such a crappy camera anyway, and easy to transport, it actually serves as a way for me get my eyes back on, so to speak.
I've been shooting a lot with it. Little things that I've spotted along the way. Snapshots. Stuff where I've been thinking more about my flickr album than my stock portfolio. It's been very refreshing, and even if these images can never replace the niceness that comes from my dslr, they are in fact a nice supplement.
Pretty soon, another roadtrip is coming up. This time it's down to San Francisco (don't worry, I'll have flowers in my hair ... maybe) with the prettier half and a friend from Denmark. We don't know precisely which day we're leaving or how long we are going to be gone, but we do know which car we'll be driving.
As a sidenote, I e-mailed my bank (in Denmark everyone has a personal account manager to contact for help and advice), to notify them of a possible overdraft in the next couple of weeks. The reply I got back was short and sweet: "That's okay, we know you're good for it." Now I really want to spend some money! Dangerous, dangerous.
However, let me finish off this rant of a post, by summarizing: It's great and liberating to take snapshots with a (fairly) cheap camera, I'm excited about my friend visiting and the trip down south - and don't worry - more Danish Lessons are coming!
And just because you're such a nosey bastard, I'll even let you in on, what it is I'm keeping myself so busy with. There's my novel, for one. I'm almost done with the third draft, having edited the first couple of chapters of the third act (that's the part of the story, where all the pieces start to fall into place, for those who don't know).
And I've been out. Outside in the Seattle summer that will not die, shooting strangers in the street, hanging out with my man Lee, drinking way too much coffee and jotting down private notes on life and all its injustices in my Moleskine. Fuck, I'm so deep sometimes, I can't even stand myself. I'm surprised you're still reading.
Anyway, thought I'd share a shot from yesterday's photosafari in Ballard. There's a lot more in my flickr portfolio (and even more to come). And don't tell anyone, but I actually shot all these in jpg-mode. Slumming it with the point and shooters of the world. I feel so dirty.
I've taken some of my snapshots from my flickr-album, strung them together and recorded a quick 'n' dirty soundtrack to it. And here it is - for your viewing and listening pleasure. How about them apples?
Here's how I did it: I got my horizontal images sorted by date and renamed to be in sequence. Then I used QuickTime to turn them into a movie file, which I then imported into GarageBand, where I could add the soundtrack and finally export both together into what you see here.
