I had been wanting a bass for years, but in spite of having bought several guitars over the years, I somehow never got around to getting the bass. Until today.
Lately, I have been making a lot of music, and it has bothered me more and more, that I've had to play the bass on my puny keyboard, using its puny keyboard sounds (or actually the sounds from GarageBand), so as soon as I got home from the store, I sat down and a quick-n-dirty bass track for one of my recent songs.
And how could I not share?
The song is in Danish and is called Hun Danser (She Dances). It is not only my first recording using my new bass. It is also the first one, using my new MIC200 pre-amp and a new mic.
Anyway, here it is. Enjoy.
While my wrist is healing nicely, after I moved my mouse over to the other hand, I'm breaking out like I was a teenageboy high on hormones. Not that I had much of a problem with these things, when I actually was a teenager. Anyway, I'm not going to dwell on any of this, really, it was all just an excuse to present this little video.
It's I Don't Want To Grow Up by the master of storytelling, Tom Waits. The song was covered by The Ramones and lends itself very well to their simple uptempo rock 'n' roll style.
It's kinda silly, like most of Tom's songs, but at the same time with a touch of melancholy. How can you not love something like that?
I like The Rolling Stones. Yes, they're old. Yes, they've made some total crap (especially in the eighties), but dammit, they are still the biggest rock 'n' roll band in the history of the world.
I saw them play in '89 for the first time, when my dad decided I needed som culture in my life. Thanks, dad. Since then, I've missed every single tour for one reason or another. Until now. The better half and I are going to see them play in Seattle. Provided Keith doesn't try to climb any palm trees in the meantime.
First time was an eye-opener. When I started playing guitar, it was songs such as Wild Horses, Paint it Black, Sympathy for the Devil and Jumping Jack Flash, my friends and I were pouring our hearts into. This time around, I'm sure the experience will be quite different, but I don't doubt that I'll walk away a happy man.
I love guitars. Especially electric guitars. Even more especially Fenders. And most especially Telecasters. I got my first Fender Tele on my 18th birthday, and though I have played many different guitars since then, it is still the one I keep coming back to.
And yesterday, I bought myself a brand new one. A Fender Telecaster Highway One model, which is sort of a retro-style version but with a satin finish (never seen that before). I think the sound is great on it, in spite of the pick-ups being slightly downgraded compared to the American Standard version.
I've already written about my GAS (Guitar Acquiring Syndrome) in detail elsewhere, so feel free to consider this post a badly disguised advertisement for my "real blog". Or maybe an independent follow-up. Or an ad for the picture over on the right, which I took.
