I do apologize for the utter silliness of this video. It was Monday evening, and I had a little extra time on my hands. Maybe too much time.
I first encountered the Lumiere videos when I interviewed one half of the team behind videoblogging.info - a sort of portal for everything Lumiere. In honor of the original movies created by the Lumiere brothers (you know, the guys who made the first moving pictures), the concept of these modern day ones is a simple one: Fixed camera, no editing, no zooming, no effects, no audio and no longer than 60 seconds per movie.
At first it was kind of odd and maybe even a waste of time, but I have found that the constrictions offer some inspiration and challenge. What makes a good Lumiere movie as opposed to a bad one? And the fact that they have no audio makes them a perfect thing to look at, while you're listening to your favorite podcasts or music.
And so, I've been dabbling. On my YouTube page, I have already uploading a few, and I have more to come. Here's a sample for your viewing pleasure.
In other news, the Danish lessons are still underway. I ran out of recorded phrases, so we're currently trying to come up with a new set. Stay tuned for that.
I've taken some of my snapshots from my flickr-album, strung them together and recorded a quick 'n' dirty soundtrack to it. And here it is - for your viewing and listening pleasure. How about them apples?
Here's how I did it: I got my horizontal images sorted by date and renamed to be in sequence. Then I used QuickTime to turn them into a movie file, which I then imported into GarageBand, where I could add the soundtrack and finally export both together into what you see here.
While my wrist is healing nicely, after I moved my mouse over to the other hand, I'm breaking out like I was a teenageboy high on hormones. Not that I had much of a problem with these things, when I actually was a teenager. Anyway, I'm not going to dwell on any of this, really, it was all just an excuse to present this little video.
It's I Don't Want To Grow Up by the master of storytelling, Tom Waits. The song was covered by The Ramones and lends itself very well to their simple uptempo rock 'n' roll style.
It's kinda silly, like most of Tom's songs, but at the same time with a touch of melancholy. How can you not love something like that?
