Since the Danish Lessons are becoming so popular, it seems only fair that I should sport a theme that fits them. There, I am proud to present you with the new red and white theme, complete with custom banner that has the whole Dare to Danish thing going on.
Aw yeah, Personal Branding, Bitches.
What's your favorite foreign accent?
Here we go again with the discrimination. What's this foreign shit? This is the internet you fapnut! A global community where people from all nations gather as one. There are no foreigners here! And even if you say, that the question is directed at life outside the internet, it still makes no sense at all since you might be from New Jersey and be in love with an Albanian accent, but what about the Albanian reading this? And when is an accent an accent anyway? If I speak Swedish, I may have a Danish accent. If I speak Danish, my accent is non-existant, whereas my dialect is from Copenhagen. Dialect is not the same as accent. Idiots.
Someone seriously needs to pull their heads out of their asses here. How can VOX even consider picking a question like this? Are they on drugs? This is three strikes now. Someone should get fired.
Okay, so it's been a while and I've been posting a lot here on VOX (at the expense of my other blogs). I figured, I would give it a shot and see how I felt about it. The questions I am trying to answer are:
So, what do I post here? Mainly rants and rambles, I've noticed. Semi-short posts about whatever's on my mind, mixed with a little self-promotion and questions of the day. Compared to my blog on rasmusrasmussen.com, this is definitely lighter content. Over there, I try to post longer pieces with more wit and depth to them. More essayish than ranting. So, in that respect, VOX is a great supplement. Of course, some of the rants and rambles are things, I might've posted on my Danish blog, but that's a completely different audience, and there is that to take into account as well.
What do I get out of posting to VOX? Well, there's the immediate group of readers, that I don't really have to fight to get, namely all the iStock-people. We all know each other already, and seem to have joined VOX as a clan of our own. Having readers is always nice, of course, although VOX is not offering any kind of stats for us to measure how many visitors we actually have. In fact there are several things like that, that VOX is missing. Being used to WordPress and the many many possibilities that has to offer, I find VOX quite limiting in many respects. I realize that they are still only testing and will probably add a lot later, but for now, I feel bound by the site's limitations.
Will I still use it then? For now, yes. I hope that the group of readers here, may eventually become readers on my real blog, and in spite of the limitations, I find that VOX is excellent for stuff like promoting my music and keeping up on other people's lives, which is definitely part of the attraction.
In conclusion, I think VOX is perfect for any iStocker, who'd like to expand on the community features that iStockphoto already provides. And like MySpace, it's good for showing off your stuff, if you're a creative person. I might even suggest that the MySpace people I know, drop that place for this, which I think has a much better structure and more options. But would I recommend a change to this for my blogging friends, and have them give up their own domains on the process? I doubt it.
Like many others, I'm sure, I had a blog long before VOX opened its doors. And mine is proudly powered by WordPress, which I still think is the best software out there for setting up versatile, stable blogs. So, since this place is lacking RSS-integration, I went out looking for a crossposting plugin for WordPress. And I found one!
So, if you already have a WP-powered blog, but you still think VOX is kinda cool, you might want to give that a shot. I haven't actually tried it out yet, but I figured I'd spread the word anyway.
I figured, I'd play around with the features this place has to offer a little more, so I decided to upload one of my songs. That's right, a song written and performed by yours truly. The lyrics are in Danish but the music is, as far as I know, universal.
The song is about a friend of mine, I haven't seen in a long time, but whom I've been able to follow online. The title loosely translates into something like Now And Again.
The song was recorded in my bedroom, using my iBook and GarageBand. I've played most of the instruments on a keyboard (including the drums), and I am no great keyboard player. So be warned. And be gentle.
I realize that a lot of iStockers are getting profiles set up here through the partnership between vox and iStockphoto and without a doubt, more non-iStock people will join as time passes, but it made me think about the connection between VOX and the Creative Network feature on the site. Perhaps the two could be integrated somehow? Or maybe the CN on iStock will die slowly, now that everyone's on VOX?
Just thinking out loud here...
Okay, so I've joined the bandwagon that is VOX. I already have several "homes" online, of course, and I have no idea what I'll do with this one. If anything. But here I am nonetheless, checking it out. It looks alright so far, like a MySpace v. 2.0 with some things done a lot better. But where's the RSS integration, I wonder? If I could integrate feeds from my blogs, this could be turned into a personal portal, which would be extremely cool.
